The event was originally scheduled to take place on May 3 in 22 locations across British Columbia.

The annual IG Wealth Management Alzheimer’s Walk, which was originally scheduled to take place on May 3 in 22 locations across the province, will now be held online on Sunday, May 31.

The 2020 event will take a different format due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the critical need for physical distance.

The online event begins at 9 a.m. on walkforalzheimers.ca. Participants will be able to broadcast the walk live, while entertaining from their living room, backyard or balcony.

The show will feature participants from across Canada who will share their personal stories of how dementia has affected their lives, as well as competing in fun challenges and walking in a safe space.

Maria Howard, CEO of the Alzheimer Society of British Columbia, said the event is a way, in these unprecedented times, to continue to support people with dementia.

“Staying socially connected is good for brain health, and keeping our spirits up is essential. This is a real opportunity to show that we are a united country to support people with dementia and that together we are making memory a reality, “she said.

Registration can be done on the website. The funds raised go to programs and services to support people with dementia, and to research into the causes and cure of dementia.
