Anna Wintour’s son battles coronavirus alone after being forced to leave his family

Anna Wintour said her doctor son was “very sick and in his forties at home”.

The editor of US Vogue, 70, said Charles Shaffer, 35, has isolated himself from his wife and two daughters, but will return to work after he has recovered.

In a video for A Common Thread, a fashion industry fundraising initiative, Anna also heartily thanked those who, like Charles, had weathered the epidemic.

She said, “The most critical help is on the front line. My son is a doctor.

“He is currently very sick and quarantines himself at home, away from his wife and two young daughters. But when he is able, he will return to work in intensive care in his local hospital.

She also reminded readers to wear a face mask when they have to go out.
