Anna Wintour said her doctor son was “very sick and in his forties at home”.

The editor of US Vogue, 70, said Charles Shaffer, 35, has isolated himself from his wife and two daughters, but will return to work after he has recovered.

In a video for A Common Thread, a fashion industry fundraising initiative, Anna also heartily thanked those who, like Charles, had weathered the epidemic.

She said, “The most critical help is on the front line. My son is a doctor.

“He is currently very sick and quarantines himself at home, away from his wife and two young daughters. But when he is able, he will return to work in intensive care in his local hospital.

“I am so proud of him and so grateful to all the health workers, first responders, nurses and doctors who are fighting to reduce the spread of the virus and save lives. “

Anna shares Charles and her 32-year-old daughter, Bee, with her husband David Shaffer.

Vogue magazine recently shared Anna’s thoughts on “anxiety and sadness” during the coronavirus outbreak, as she urged her legions of loyal fans to take precautions to beat him.

“I think of the simple pleasures we once took for granted – like going to the theater, dining with friends, entering the office – and they seem like impossible luxuries.

“It is true that this is a time of anxiety and sadness, and that there are more of the two to come, but I also believe that it is a time of great joy. “

She also reminded readers to wear a face mask when they have to go out.
