A woman was shot dead; Postal inspection service to investigate, FBI says – WISH-TV | Indianapolis News | Indiana Weather

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A woman died after being killed on Monday afternoon on the east side of the city.

Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and emergency personnel were called to a person shot shortly before 4:00 p.m. in block 400 on Denny Street. It’s just southeast of East Michigan Street and North Sherman Drive.

The woman died later in a hospital, IMPD said Monday evening. The woman’s name was not released during the notification to the next of kin, IMPD said. The coroner’s office will determine the cause of death.

The US Postal Inspection Service and the IMPD are investigating the homicide and the FBI is helping.

An IMPD spokesperson said he could not confirm that the woman was a factor.

The FBI said, however, that the postal inspection service was directing the investigation because IMPD said it was about a postman.

The postal inspection service did not immediately respond to a request for information from News 8, and a local representative of the United States postal service said it could not comment.

The IMPD did not provide any information on a possible suspect or on the fact that the shooting was an isolated incident.
