An alleged leak showing the rear camera sensor and the home screen of the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max sparked debate among the crowd.

Twitter user Fudge (@choco_bit) shared a picture of what the rear camera module might look like on the next flagships of the iPhone. The image appears to be a concept or reference design of some sort and shows three cameras and what can be a LIDAR sensor.

Fudge followed the picture with another screening front and back of the iPhone 12 Pro as well as the home screen. The second image suggests that the next iPhone will have a smaller notch as well as what appear to be widgets on the home screen.

The two images are said to come from iOS 14 versions.

Twitter users took notice of the responses to debate the legitimacy of the two images and finally called on some big names to weigh in. Leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer (@OnLeaks) rang to say that he could not confirm the leak. In addition, Hemmerstoffer says that the leaks of the iPhone 12 allegedly from iOS 14 are “nothing but fakes.”

YouTuber and leaker Jon Prosser (@jon_prosser) also weighed on the side of Fudge. Prosser claims that the images are legitimate and come from an internal version of iPadOS 14. However, Prosser also says that they are probably reference images and that people should not give them weight.

In addition, Prosser writes that his sources claim that none of the versions of iOS 14 have home screen widgets, which further fixes the leak.

Finally, Hemmerstoffer asks Prosser where the images are in iOS 14. Prosser says they come from an internal “Nonui build” and that he can no longer say it without revealing its source.

In the end, these particular images probably don’t reflect exactly what the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max will look like. That said, I think it’s safe to say that new iPhones will sport a LIDAR sensor as it was included on the new iPad Pro. As for how Apple integrates the sensor into the phone remains to be seen.
