2 more COVID-19 deaths while Ottawa is in the top 500


According to Ottawa Public Health, two other people died from COVID-19.

The city’s total now stands at 524 laboratory-confirmed cases of new coronavirus – an increase of 30 cases since Friday’s public health report.

Eleven people have died in Ottawa so far.

Outbreaks have been reported in 14 facilities across the city, including the Villa Marconi long-term care center on Baseline Road. Friday afternoon, it was added to the list of institutions with active outbreaks.

OC Transpo also announced on Saturday evening that one of its special constables had contracted COVID-19. The employee last worked on Good Friday, the transport agency said.

The Ontario provincial government announced on Saturday that it is extending COVID-19 emergency orders until April 23 – and adding new ones – as the number of provincial cases increases from 411 to 6,648.

According to CBC figures, 274 people died in Ontario from COVID-19.

In the Outaouais region, 16 new cases have been reported since Friday, bringing the total for the region to 157.
